Cocobay Resort – Antigua Travel Guide

We took our belated honeymoon to Cocobay Resort in Antigua in December of 2016. We had a destination wedding in Florida therefore we decided to postpone going on a trip. I highly recommend this island and resort to any honeymooners or truly anyone looking for a great all-inclusive beach get away. We loved it so much that we are actually going back in November with another couple!

[Swimsuit: ASOS, Hat: Show Me Your Mumu, Sunglasses: Diff Eyewear] We ended up picking this island and resort after a great deal of research. I literally read every review on Trip Advisor. You know when you go somewhere and you’ve seen pictures before and it ends up looking nothing like that? This is the opposite. We were picked up by our previously arranged transportation through a company the resort uses. It’s about a 40 minute ride from the airport. When you get to the resort it is gated and has security. We were dropped off at the front and given drinks and cool towels during the check-in. The view when you a look out from the front desk in is unbelievable. We were helped to our premium waterfront cottage and our bags were taken. The view from the room took our breath away!

ACCOMMODATIONS

We had a premium waterfront suite with a plunge pool. It was named Pepper Pot. We called it the Barbie cottage since it was pink! We were thrilled with the view! It’s far enough away from the front desk and restaurant that it felt private but not so far that you had to walk forever. It had hardwood floors throughout, king size bed and most importantly A/C! The bathroom area is a double sink and shower that opens to the outside. We loved that! The back doors open to a plunge pool, view of the ocean and a claw foot tub. The plunge pool was very refreshing. It had a hammock hanging beside it and a large sun bed for lounging. There is a safe in the closet if you need it!

FOOD

I didn’t expect the food to be so good. My husband and I are both picky so we were a little worried. We were able to order any premium items for free because of the room we booked. Breakfast was a buffet with an omelette station, meats, pastries, fruit and fresh juices. Lunch was seafood, salad, pasta, burgers etc. We had fresh shark cooked right in front of us and it was amazing! There are paninis at the beach bar after noon as well. Dinners must be scheduled in the AM. We never had a problem getting the time we wanted. The menu was different every night. It was a four course dinner and we always found something we liked. The food was seriously really good!

DRINKS

They had top shelf liquor and they’re not afraid to pour it up strong! The tap beer isn’t always the coldest so stick to the bottles if you can! Best Pina Coladas I’ve ever had. One night after dinner we were at the bar in the main resort area and the bartender let my husband and another guy get out all the local rums and taste them all. There’s a beach bar by the main pool you can get drinks and snacks from during the day.

BEACH

Beach is secluded and yes there are people selling things when you walk down but they seriously barely bothered us at all. I mean it’s nothing like Jamaica! I bought one bracelet but it’s only because I really liked it. The jet ski people were fine too. We actually found them entertaining! Chairs and umbrellas were easy to get. The ocean drops off quickly when you get in at the shore so be careful if you’re not a strong swimmer. I borrowed a snorkel one day and didn’t see much.

SERVICE

Top notch experience the entire trip! All employees bent over backwards with a smile for us. I truly think they will accommodate any request! This is what makes this a special place besides the view. One night after dinner we were surprised with candles and rose petals scattered all over our cottage. The last night we were there we came back to plantain chips and rum punch as a farewell. Wifi is included for premium level guests. They had complimentary nature walks and exercise classes during the day. They also have massages and dinner on the beach but we didn’t do either of those.

The overall feel of this place is rustic luxury. I can’t stress how amazing this place is. Get the waterfront view – it’s worth every penny. We loved it so much and can’t wait to be back in November. To book a stay at Cocobay Resort visit their website:www.cocobayresort.com
